The Soul
Life is driven by desires--driven in directions that many were surprised they took. Desire is the passion and motivation and subtle force that can cause great fulfillment or terrible suffering or anywhere in between. Much has been written about desires throughout time. What is the truth about desires? Should the topic of desires be left up to psychologists or philosophers or religious experts? Should we try to crush all desires or try to fulfill all desires no matter how terrible they may be? It certainly is a mysterious topic. And perhaps it is a topic too dangerous to even consider, let alone to publicly promulgate. But here we are, entering into unchartered waters, prepared to bravely go where only the crazy or exceedingly courageous have ventured before.
Desire moves us. It can make us do the most foolish things imaginable. It can also make us do holy or selfless or awe-inspiring things on earth. Where do desires come from—from the soul or mind or heart or emotions or intuition or from very deep levels within us? Are they influenced by our past or by our friends or relatives or acquaintances or what we see on video or podcasts, etc? Have you ever had a desire that made you swim upstream for years only to finally figure out that it was best to let that desire go and be released from that desire? Have you ever had a desire quickly come up within yourself and then the idea on how to quickly fulfill that desire and within a blink of an eye that desire is magically fulfilled? The desire of a child can cause that child to cry incessantly for hours if left unfulfilled but it can also cause such contagious delight if it is fulfilled.
Five Main Principles of Desires
Desires, as long as the desire is not so superficial as wanting a second piece of dessert, are how we evolve as human beings. We first fulfill one particular desire and then we choose some higher or greater or more inspiring desire and so on. Striving for and then fulfilling a strong desire is an act of molding or shaping or creating who we are. The same is true for those who have no desire—stagnant bumps on a log who lack any zest or zeal for life and what it can offer us and those around us or it can mean someone who is beyond desire, thought, the mind, someone truly established in total fulfillment.
The way to speed up the process of evolution through desire is to first know what your deepest desires are—someone who can truly look into your soul and who can tell you who you are at a soul level. This may be confirmation of what you already know or it can be revelatory. In either case, being consciously aware of what your soul longs for, is devoted to, and exerts an enormous amount of energy towards fulfilling can bring total clarity to your soul’s journey. Life is not just desires, but desires are like the guts of our souls—the core, the engine of the car.
